Logline:
The adventurous life and mysterious death of the poet and spy, Christopher Marlowe.
Synopsis:
In 1593 England faces Catholic revolution and invasion by Spain and France. Sir Francis Walsingham, the Spy Master, recruits a young Cambridge student, Christopher Marlowe, a cocksure poet and brilliant swordsman, to infiltrate the revolutionary camp and expose the enemies of the state. Using wit and charm, Marlowe befriends the Catholics and supplies the evidence that condemns Mary, Queen of Scots and her conspirators to death. In exchange, Sir Francis secures Marlowe’s entry to the London stage, where Marlowe’s hubris grows as his fantastically popular plays become increasingly controversial. But events come to a head when the Church deems the sensational ‘Dr. Faustus’ as heresy. Marlowe’s service to the state is soon forgotten, and the stage is set for betrayal, torture, and extraordinary courage in a battle of wills - to the death.
