Synopsis:
Ethan wants to do the right thing. He loves his girlfriend Rachel. He wants her to be happy. He wants her to be his wife. That’s why he flies out every Sunday and back in every
Friday night to make ends meet as a project manager for Enormotech industries. That’s why Ethan and Rachel share the world’s smallest one bedroom apartment with Rachel’s best friend
Tracy, the CSI addicted daughter of a convicted killer.
They all have dreams. Rachel’s is to be a successful actress. Tracy? She’s going to be a famous crime scene photographer. And Ethan, well, Ethan wants a family. He wants to be a good
provider, just like his dad. You have to sacrifice for your dreams, don’t you?
But sometimes it’s hard. Like when you get laid off for no apparent reason. Or
when someone slips an eviction notice under your door. Or when you can’t
remember the last time you and your girlfriend had sex. Or when your
girlfriend’s parents decide she’d be better off without you…. at Thanksgiving
dinner… in front of the entire family.
Why is it that when your dreams seem so far out of reach, that’s when life rubs
salt in the wounds? Rachel’s Nazi loving grandmother has it all—a 10,000 square
foot 3-story Brownstone in Brooklyn Heights, and she doesn’t even leave the
first floor. She hates everyone. No one more than Ethan. He’s far too “blue
collar immigrant” for her 7th generation American princess, Rachel.
When Tracy comes up with the “perfect p lan” to the roommates’ housing woes and
gets Rachel to buy in, it’s up to Ethan to see it through. But is Ethan ready
to be a cold-blooded killer? And is killing your girlfriend’s grandmother
really the best way to fix a flailing relationship?
But there’s no time to think. If Ethan wants her to be his wife, he’s got to
prove he can be the right kind of man for Rachel. He’s got to kill her
grandmother.
And when it all goes horribly wrong, but it turns out all right—when she dies,
but isn’t murdered, when the house is empty, but not up for grabs—what do you
do to fix it? How many more of Rachel’s family members need to die to make a
happy home?
Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Property is about the lengths people go to
achieve their dreams in an environment where dreams are terminally out of
reach—especially when those dreams include home ownership—New York City.
